Major Requirements In Any Relationship

Remember when you were sitting in a restaurant and across your table, you observe this old couple who seem to be in a total bliss of life, majorly because they have each other’s company along with it they are enjoying their food and vibe of the place. Looking at them you feel that ‘Yes! This is what I aspire. This is where I want to be when I am old.’  And then you end up wondering how for so many years they maintained their relationship whereas people around you have trouble making it past six months?

Human Beings have always craved to be understood and in the process, we build many relationships and try to find people who know those little things about us which even we don’t know.

The first relationship which involved by default is the one that we share with our parents. This relationship is generally effortless and unconditional from our parent’s side. From the start we know that they will always be there and are going to stick around despite the disagreement which will eventually be sorted one day, yes, we can it biology but the relationship we share with them is pure and often due to its nature taken granted.

Growing up we start choosing people around us. We meet some wonderful personalities some stay in our lives, some do not. We often see or experience major setbacks in the various relationship in our lives. Some people value friendship more than a romantic relationship and some have another way around. We often see people have an easier time establishing and maintaining a relationship than others, there’s always a person around us who are still in touch with their childhood friends and then there are some who long for closer friendships or try to figure out why an existing or promising relationship fizzled out.

Every relationship requires efforts and yet should be effortless.

A healthy relationship requires the efforts of two people. Everyone deserves a healthy relationship. There is no formula as such to have a “healthy relationship”, humans are flawed and life is tough which may bring few or many obstacles in most of our relationships. We always have a choice of being in any such relationship which is toxic, but having a realization of it takes its own share of time. Every relationship is different and very human is subjective but there are few basic and common elements which if practiced will make your relationship anything but toxic.

  1. A Space for Open Communication:

Everyone keeps saying that “Communication is Key” but the reason of this is that it is very important to be on the same page as your partner this will  definitely go a long way and opening up to your partner about what’s bothering you, compromising over your disagreements and complimenting each other are all equally as important.  Some people most of the time feel hesitant in communicating their thoughts and opinion to their friend or the person they may be romantically involved if that’s the case one should definitely consider the reason why? You may want to question the person’s existence in your life. Communication in this modern age can be very tricky with all the messaging apps where most of the time text gets misinterpreted it becomes very important to look into a scenario like, if your partner needs you to always answer right away and text them all day long, and you don’t want that, that’s not healthy. On the other side, if your partner is ignoring your texts or only calls you when they are free then that’s not healthy either. Finding a communication balance that you’re both comfortable with is super important.

If we talk about communication, we can’t ignore the element of communicating honestly. The basis of every relationship is, to be honest. Yes, the truth can make you uncomfortable, and in most cases would be met with anger.

You got to be brave! Honesty in every relationship is extremely important because it’s what makes a person feel safe and builds trust in one another. Transparency with each other will create a space where two people can actually grow. Even if you think the truth will be hard for your partner to hear, they’ll appreciate that it in the long run. If the person can’t handle the truth and chooses to go away from your life then, it’s for the best. One new term that has surfaced is  “white lies” which means harmless lies which won’t affect your relationship on the surface level but in roots it surely not going to go well and hence should never be bought into the picture.

2. Personal Space:

Another majorly neglected factor by people in most of the relationships is the requirement of personal space. We see these days that people in a relationship often forget or simply neglects their personal space in a way that is toxic mostly in the case where romance is involved. People prioritize this “ special person “ over career and their friends. It is never healthy to always need the company of your partner and their constant attention. Both individuals in the relationship should have their own hobbies and friends besides each other.  Also in friendship, many people get upset over the fact when they are not their friend’s “only friend”. In such a case there is a massive need for independence.

3. Forgiveness:

As stated earlier every relationship is different and humans have flaws and nobody is perfect this may make things bumpy which leads to certain mistakes. People make mistakes in relationship as they make mistakes in everyday life.  Most of these mistakes are forgivable. Forgiveness is extremely important and necessary in a relationship because we have to accept and be reminded that we aren’t perfect. So if your friend bailed on you because something important came up or you had a bad day at work and said some things that should have been directed at someone else out of anger, it’s okay. Of course, there are some things that are unforgivable, such as cheating on your partner because it means that your relationship was of insignificance to them.

Giving detail notice and attention to those small things in any relationship makes it extra special. The small things in life are actually not that small. There are times where the smallest deed can make someone the happiest and that’s usually because the small things are the most thoughtful ones. Preparing breakfast when your partner is too tired or surprising them with their coffee from their favorite coffee shop after they had a long day at work can be enough to make their day or surprising your friends with merchandise of their favorite TV Series. These small things really do count and they are remembered more than you might think and is very easy to do. There’s something magical in knowing that your partner feels appreciated and happy that they have the privilege of calling you mine. And the small things can do just that.
